Abdi performs at the Belgrade

This image captures Abdi performing The Graveyard of Dreams at Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre, a powerful poem born from the 'Empowering Young Voices' project led by Warwick philosophers Karen Simecek and Andrew Cooper. Through six workshops with local youth and top spoken word artists, the project explored how poetry can amplify marginalised voices and foster political engagement. Abdi’s journey—from love poems to a searing reflection on poverty and identity—embodies the project’s impact. The work also informed new philosophical research on voice, acknowledgement, and social justice, published in the Journal of Philosophy of Education.
