The Shpilman Institute of Photography launched its inaugural research awards this year with a special call for projects in the “Philosophy and Photography.” Diarmuid Costello has been awarded one of six awards in this category, drawn from 500 applications from 47 countries. The grant will fund a term’s sabbatical to work on ‘On Photography’, under contract for Routledge’s Thinking in Action series. This will draw on recent work in both philosophy and the history & theory of photography to put pressure on several core assumptions of recent analytic philosophy of photography.
