Local information

Location and travel basics

The workshop will be held on the campus of the University of Warwick. The campus is located on the outskirts of Coventy (note - NOT in the nearby town of Warwick). The nearest train station is Coventry, which is a 12-15 minute bus or taxi/Uber ride to campus. The nearest airport is Birmingham (BHX), about a 20 minute taxi/Uber ride from campus. You can also take a train from BHX to Coventry (COV).

If you are coming from London, trains to Coventry leave from Euston Station (to search for trains, try National RailLink opens in a new window or TrainlineLink opens in a new window). If you are coming from Heathrow, it can be easier to take a bus/coach from Heathrow to Coventry, rather than going into London first (National ExpressLink opens in a new window).

Where to stay

You can book rooms on campus at one of the two conference centresLink opens in a new window: Radcliffe and Scarman. Either of these would be the most convenient option for attending the workshop. The rates vary a great deal, sometimes a bargain, sometimes not.

A hotel that is a couple of minutes' walk from the Coventry train station is the Hotel IndigoLink opens in a new window.

Kenilworth is a town 'next door' to Coventry, about a 10-15 minute bus ride from campus. Here are some options for accommodation in Kenilworth:

The first two are more 'quaint', which can mean tiny rooms, but with nice bar/pub areas. They are all very convenient for the #11 bus mentioned below.

Local transport

The 12X is a direct bus from Coventry train station (or Warwick Road just above the station - about a 2-minute walk from the station) to campus. The relevant stop for getting off the bus is the University of Warwick Bus Interchange. The 12X (timetableLink opens in a new window) is also helpful for getting from Coventry bus station (called 'Pool Meadow', a misleadingly pastoral name) to campus - the 12X starts at Pool Meadow.

The 11 bus (timetableLink opens in a new window) also starts in Coventry and goes past the train station, to campus and then to Kenilworth and Leamington Spa.

With the local buses you can pay with a card on the bus (and the fare is too high - £2.90 for a single journey).
