Alex Underwood recently completed a PhD in the department of philosophy, with the thesis 'Subject and Subjection: Deleuze, Guattari, and the Problems of Liberalism'. His research interests include 20th Century French philosophy, political philosophy, and the historical relation between philosophy and the state.

Alex was postgraduate representative of the CRPLA from 2018 to 2019, during which he co-organised the conference 'Precarity and Precariousness', which explored the concept of precarity from interdisciplinary perspectives. Beyond this, he has co-organised a number of further conferences supported by the CRPLA, including 21st Century Theories of Literature (2017) and the Warwick Continental Philosophy Conference (2018 and 2019). He was also editor of Pli, the Warwick Journal of Philosophy, from 2017-2019, and lead editor for volume 30, Restoration and Resistance.
