What's in store?

Join fellow SELCS students for a memorable day exploring some of the most atmospheric and historic houses in the Midlands—and discovering how people lived in centuries past.

Your trip begins at Packwood House, a remarkable blend of Jacobean and Edwardian style. Extensively restored by Graham Baron Ash between the First and Second World Wars, Packwood is a 20th‑century interpretation of Tudor domestic architecture. Inside, you’ll find fine 16th‑century textiles and furniture; outside, the gardens are known for their herbaceous borders and celebrated collection of yew trees. A visitor in the 1920s described it perfectly: “A house to dream of, a garden to dream in.”

From here, you’ll take a scenic walk (2.5 miles, about one hour) to Baddesley Clinton, the moated manor that was home to the Ferrers family for 500 years. Much of what stands today was created by Henry Ferrers in the late 1500s. The house later became a sanctuary for persecuted Catholics, who were hidden in its secret priest holes during the 1590s. After exploring the building, enjoy a peaceful wander around the surrounding gardens—from the walled garden to the vegetable patch and beyond. Baddesley’s grounds are beautiful in every season.

Entry fees are fully covered—you only need to pay £15 for transport.

Spaces are limited, so sign up quickly!

Please note

You will need walking boots or waterproof footwear for the walk from Packwood House to

Baddesley Clinton. We also recommend wearing warm and waterproof clothing for the day.
