How can social research help us understand social inequalities? This is a foundation module for students interested to understand the formation and effects of social inequality.

We will explore theoretical understandings of social inequality, and we will cover contemporary sociological research into a wide range of social inequalities. We will draw links between individual, local, and global patterns of inequality, focusing on gender, social class, and race, as well as other sources of inequality (e.g. disability, age, sexuality etc.).

By the end of this module, students will have advanced knowledge and understanding of the state of the art of research and research methodologies used to study social inequalities. Students will be able to critically engage with existing research, and to design research to study particular forms of social inequality.
