Andre Celtel
I hold a BA in Religious Studies & Sociology from Cardiff University and MPhil and DPhil degrees in Social Anthropology from the University of Oxford. Interdisciplinary in nature, my doctoral work was concerned with the cross-cultural construction of the ‘person’ and was subsequently reworked into a monograph, Categories of Self. My current research continues to revolve around questions of individuality, self and personhood.
After my DPhil I worked in publishing and teaching for a number of years before taking up my current role as Director of Student Experience in the Department of Sociology. In this capacity I support students at pre-university (e.g. widening participation, outreach), at-university (e.g. study skills, personal and academic development) and post-university levels (e.g. careers and employability). I also teach and supervise UG and Master's dissertations (but please note that I do not usually take on PhD supervision).
I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).
