False Alarm - Kaspersky Anti-Virus - Trojan.JS.Redirector.ar - 25/01/2010 Monday

WHAT IS THE PROBLEM
Please note that our Anti-virus application Kaspersky Anti-Virus is detecting a false positive today, the alert is about a threat of type "Trojan.JS.Redirector.ar" detected in a file that ends in something like show_ads[1].js or just show_ad.js in C:\Documents and settings\...

WHO IS AFFECTED
Any staff or student using a WBS computer (the current default Anti-Virus is Kaspersky Anti-Virus in WBS) who is browsing the web today.

WHY
As an Anti-Virus applications needs to scan thoroughly there is always the chance of "false alarms", case where there isn't any real threat. This is common and Kaspersky normally responds to such false positives by updating their virus lists (it is not just us, it has been reported globally by many people). If you come across a web site that runs banners and ads from Google, i.e. www.bbc.co.uk or www.coventrytelegraph.net. (Most sites do work with Google Ads I would imagine)

WHAT IS NEXT
If you get any prompts that warn you about the above detection please ignore it (it is safe to click "skip" or "delete"). Even if you click delete the file is likely to come again if you are still on the same website.

As a Kaspersky customer we will normally get a fix with the next daily update (we receive daily updates on the virus definitions).
A good suggestion is to turn down the volume as Kaspersky is playing that very distinct sound at each detection.
