About the Summer School
The Summer School is a yearly initiative aimed at the diffusion, development, and advancement of practice-based studies. Our ethos is to be inclusive and open, and we aim to create a temporary learning community characterized by open dialogue, discussion, and joint exploration.
The School is programmatically multi-disciplinary and open to a variety of approaches and sensitivities. It is organised by Warwick’s Practice, Process, and Institutions (PPI) Research Programme in collaboration with the International Symposium Series on Process Organization Studies (PROS). This year the event is coordinated by Omid Omidvar. The School has been running yearly since 2013. Past directors include Hari Tsoukas, Maja Korica, Ila Bharatan and Davide Nicolini.
The program of the Summer School covers state-of-the-art understandings of practice and process studies (1,5 days) and a variable theme (1 day) with relevance to current debates.
State-of-the-art Understandings
The first 1.5 days of the program covered the latest advancements in thinking about and the doing of practice and process studies. The summer school will open with a keynote from Stanley Blue on his work on practice and process research. Attendees had the opportunity to share their work during ‘research clinics’ and receive feedback on their work from peers and seasoned faculty including:
Davide Nicolini, Warwick Business School
Katharina Dittrich, Warwick Business School
Rene Weidner, Warwick Business School
Mira Slavova, Warwick Business School
Omid Omidvar, Warwick Business School
Jorgen Sandberg, University of Queensland & Warwick Business School

2023 Theme: The Body and Embodiment
In each summer school, we consider an advanced theme in practice and process studies. This year we will explore the study of body and embodiment. We are delighted to welcome Alexandra Michel and Charlotte Blanche. These scholars will explore a range of topics around body and embodiment discussing how they have studied body in their work, what methodological tools they have in their ethnographic repertoire and what theoretical lenses they engage. Alexandra Michel is an organizational ethnographer known for her work in finance sector. Charlotte Blanche is an interdisciplinary scholar whose work spans dance, arts and organizational theory.
