The Warwick volunteers have really helped to formalise our structure. Through this amazing training programme the Laksh teachers improve not only their teaching but their confidence, communication and most importantly their ambition.

Our teaching staff are local village people whose teaching methods are often determined by their own experience of school, rote learning and little interactive approaches to teaching.

However, with the combined efforts of our permanent Laksh team and Warwick volunteers, our teachers have embraced contemporary teaching methods.”

I have learnt many things from the Warwick volunteers, like how to make interesting lesson plans and time management, how to make difficult topics easy. I have learnt lots of useful grammar, such as when to use the past, present and future tense.

I really enjoy working with them, especially playing English games like “Duck –Duck-Goose”, “21” and “Fizz Buzz”!

Before I met the Warwick volunteers I found some work difficult, but now I really enjoy my work. I have learnt so many things from the Warwick volunteers, like how to break down difficult topics into easier topics and how to learn with fun.

I feel that the group of young people we met four weeks ago are completely different today. They have more confidence, they are comfortable singing and doing actions at the front of the classroom, they spend more time with their eyes on the children rather than on the black board and some are especially eager to try out new approaches towards learning. They have begun to think outside the box. It is a great feeling when you see a teacher take on a particular idea or method that we have suggested and use it in the classroom, for example asking the children to put their thumbs up or down to show if they have understood.

Without sounding clichéd, it is honestly life changing ... It is such a different culture, with amazing foods, music, and people.

When you go out into the village you are stared at – people are genuinely interested in your life, your culture, and your experiences.

It’s hard not to become attached to the lifestyle, and especially to the children and teachers at Laksh. You’ll make a lifelong bond with Laksh, and you’ll want to return as soon as you can.

I have gained a lot of experience on how a social and educational development project is executed and the time and work that goes behind it. I’ve also had the chance of experiencing a different country and its vibrant culture, for which I am truly grateful.

I had the most amazing month of my life at Laksh.

There are so many "best parts" to describe. I loved the enthusiasm of the teachers to learn. I loved how interested they were in us and us in them. I loved that they tried to teach me Hindi and all sorts of other things. I loved simply chatting to the teachers during the afternoons and finding out more about their lives

I have gained so much from taking part. I've gained new skills and a lot more confidence ... I've gained a new perspective on the world.

Most importantly, I have gained a new family.
