Funding Opportunities in Africa

There funds are available to support Warwick researchers collaborate with partner institutions in Africa to tackle global challenges.

Stellenbosch-Warwick Joint Seed Fund

The Stellenbosch-Warwick Joint Seed Fund is designed to flexibly support Stellenbosch and Warwick researchers and professional service staff to establish new links and advance existing collaborations, by enabling activities such as:

  • Organisation of virtual, hybrid or in-person workshops, conferences, symposia;
  • Preliminary research, experiments and pilot studies
  • Meetings to facilitate planning and development of external funding proposals;
  • Reciprocal or non-reciprocal visits to establish new collaborations

Africa Hub Visiting PhD Fellowships

We are pleased to announce that the next round of Visiting PhD Fellowships is now OPEN and due to close on 30th April 2026.

The purpose of the fellowships are:

  1. To provide opportunities to outstanding current PhD students registered at African universities to access facilities, networks or other opportunities that will be transformative for their current research and/or future career development.
  2. To consolidate existing research ties between Warwick academics and collaborators based in African universities.
  3. To help support Warwick's developing African Partnership Strategy.

Fellowships can be held for any duration of up to 12 months (there is no minimum duration).

Africa Research Fellowships

The Africa Research Fellowship, hosted by IAS, provides a route for outstanding postdoctoral researchers to visit Warwick and establish connections with academics and departments. The Fellowship programme supports early career researchers in developing an application to an external funding body which could allow them to develop their academic career.
