Background

In 2022, Stellenbosch University and the University of Warwick signed an agreement with the aim of combining expertise and engaging in collaborative activities. One of the aims of the agreement is to support collaboration between the two universities. This talk will showcase Stellenbosch's research and innovation, and give an overview of the collaboration opportunities available for Warwick staff.

The new Stellenbosch-Warwick Joint Seed Fund will aim to strengthen or initiate exchange between Stellenbosch and Warwick academics and professional services staff by enabling them to jointly undertake preliminary research and education projects, and organise meetings, conferences or workshops. The Seed Fund will be launched at this event by Professor Moyo and Professor Stuart Croft, Vice Chancellor of the University of Warwick.


About the Speaker

Professor Sibusiso Moyo, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research, Innovation and Postgraduate Support at Stellenbosch University.

Professor Moyo holds a BSc in Mathematics (with merit) from the University of Zambia (1996). She obtained her postgraduate qualifications in Mathematics from the University of Natal (now the University of KwaZulu-Natal) – a BScHons in 1997, an MSc in 1998, and a PhD in 2002. In 2016, she also graduated with a master's degree in Tertiary Education Management (with distinction) from the LH Martin Institute at the University of Melbourne, Australia.

Professor Moyo is a mathematics Professor with over 22 years in higher education. The majority of Professor Moyo's experience is in management and leading; her previous positions include director of Research and Postgraduate Support and head of the Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Physics, lecturer and senior lecturer, and DVC Engagement.

Professor Moyo publishes in Mathematics and Tertiary Education topics and issues. She has been guest editor of a number of mathematical sciences journals published by Springer-Verlag, John Wiley & Sons and the American Institute of Physics. Currently, she serves on the editorial board for the Taylor & Francis Journal of Higher Education Policy and Management.

Lead implementer for the establishment of innobiz, a student incubator for SMMEs based in Durban and owned by Durban University of Technology; Serves on Innovate Durban Board, University of Stellenbosch Enterprises (Pty) Ltd; Serves on the CASME (Center for the Advancement of Science and Mathematics Education) – to advance excellence in skills training for Teachers and Students in STEM; One of the 3xLead Academic Implementers of the Future Professors Programme hosted by Stellenbosch University.
