Funding Guidance:
Key Action 1 (KA1): Learning Mobility of Individuals
Erasmus+ KA1 focuses on individual learning mobility and offers students and teaching staff opportunities to gain learning or teaching experience abroad. KA1 covers three opportunities for individual mobility. Student opportunities sit within the Study Abroad and Global Opportunities team.
Key Action 2 (KA2): Cooperation Among Organisations and Institutions
Erasmus+ KA2 supports universities and other organisations to work together, exchange knowledge and good practice, and develop new approaches, tools and activities that enhance teaching, learning and international collaboration.
KA2 covers four main areas of collaboration. Here, we focus on the funding opportunities relevant to higher education institutions within each area.
Partnerships for Cooperation
Cooperation Partnerships in Higher Education
Funds partnerships of 3+ organisations from different Erasmus+ programme countries to jointly develop substantial, transferable outputs that address a challenge in education, training or youth work. Project outputs are expected to change practice at scale.
Partnerships for Innovation
Alliances for Innovation
Large-scale projects that promote innovation in education and training systems, or cross-sectoral innovation. They aim to strengthen Europe’s innovation capacity by boosting innovation through cooperation and flow of knowledge among higher education, vocational education and training (both initial and continuous), and the broader socio-economic environment, including research.
Partnerships for Excellence
Erasmus Mundus Actions
Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters are prestigious, integrated, international study programmes, jointly delivered by an international consortium of higher education institutions. Separate funding schemes support the initial development and the delivery of the Master’s programmes.
Capacity Building projects
Capacity Building in Higher Education
Supports international cooperation projects that are based on multilateral partnerships between organisations active in higher education. The activities and outcomes of CBHE projects must benefit the eligible third countries not associated to the programme
Jean Monnet Actions
The Jean Monnet Actions support teaching, research and policy debate relating to the European Union and are open to higher education institutions worldwide.
Jean Monnet Teaching and Research Actions take the form of Modules, Chairs or Centres of Excellence.
Jean Monnet Modules
Deliver short teaching programmes or courses in the field of European Union studies. Each module has a minimum duration of 40 teaching hours per academic year. They may also take the form of short specialised or summer programmes.
Jean Monnet Chairs
Supports a teaching post with a specialisation in EU studies. A Jean Monnet Chair is held by a single professor who provides at least 90 teaching hours per academic year.
Jean Monnet Centres of Excellence
Focal points of knowledge on European Union subjects. Centres gather experts to develop synergies between European studies’ disciplines and to engage with policy makers, civil society and the general public.
Jean Monnet Networks
Organise academic and research activities on either a specific internal EU policy topic, or a specific foreign policy (outside the EU) issue.
