Transforming Finance Education Through Simulation

An important education initiative is underway, led by Dr Ali Sheikhbahaei from Monash Business School and Dr Arie Gozluklu from Warwick Business School. The project is focused on refining and testing an innovative simulation tool that brings international finance to life for students.

By creating a realistic, hands-on experience of international trade and currency exchange, the tool aims to bridge the gap between theory and practice, helping learners develop the confidence and decision-making skills needed in today’s Business world. Simulations are widely used in higher education because they allow, students to apply theory in practical, decision-making scenarios. However, there is currently no widely available simulation tools that authentically replicates the complexity of risk management in international finance. This project seeks to fill this gap by creating a simulation that is both realistic and easy to use for large, diverse student cohorts.

Over the coming months, the team will run lab-based experiments and gather structured feedback from students to ensure the tool accurately reflects real-world market conditions while remaining accessible and engaging. Improvements will include refining scenarios, enhancing the user interface, and ensuring a smooth experience for learners.

For students, this means a more immersive, practice-oriented learning experience that strengthens research, analytical, and decision-making skills. In the long term, the project will establish a reliable model for simulation-based learning and pave the way for future collaborative teaching innovations across both institutions and beyond.
