The Warwick Africa Hub
Mutually Beneficial Collaborations
Established in 2022, the Warwick Africa Hub provides a focal point for advancing bold, interdisciplinary research and innovative educational initiatives. Our ambition is to foster partnerships that extend beyond universities, engaging with governments, industry, communities and civil society to maximise impact.
Through its Africa strategy, Warwick is broadening both the range and geographical diversity of its global partnerships. Crucially, it also seeks to seize the opportunity to pioneer innovative approaches to international collaboration, approaches that are responsive, inclusive and aligned with shared global challenges.
Our Strategic Partners
We have strong cross-cultural relationships with institutions across sub-Saharan Africa.
Stellenbosch
In 2022, Stellenbosch University and the University of Warwick signed an agreement with the aim of combining expertise and engaging in collaborative activities. One of the aims of the agreement is to support collaboration between the two universities. We are delighted to have launched the Stellenbosch-Warwick Joint Seed Fund to facilitate joint activity, establish links, and advance existing projects.
Distinguished Africa Lecture 2026
Our fifth Annual Distinguished Lecture will take place on Thursday 11 June and will be delivered by Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana. Her lecture, entitled “Whose Language Counts? African Voices, Knowledge Systems and the Future of AI”, will explore the critical role of African languages and epistemologies in shaping equitable and inclusive technological futures.
Professor Amfo’s lecture, together with her three‑day visit to Warwick, represents an excellent opportunity to deepen the partnership between our two universities and to strengthen our shared commitment to global collaboration and knowledge exchange.

The African Women Playwrights Network
The Network is a research platform that takes the form of a virtual community of female creative practitioners living in Africa or from the African diaspora.
With the installation of Bience Gawanas as our Chancellor last January, 2025 marked a significant moment in Warwick’s engagement with the African region. Looking ahead, 2026 promises to be equally active as we continue to deepen our partnerships across Africa and support a wide range of campus activities that celebrate Warwick’s longstanding connections to the continent.
Alongside building on the success of our strategic partnership with Stellenbosch University, we are working to broaden our network of institutional partners across the region, with particular focus in the coming months on Ghana, East Africa, and Morocco. There is also extensive activity underway on campus. As well as hosting a number of visiting African researchers, with applications for the next academic year soon to open, we will be hosting our fifth Annual Distinguished Lecture in June and supporting the 2026 Warwick Africa Summit, the university's flagship student-led event. As ever, we welcome the input and support of the entire Warwick community.
