Arctic Expedition Talk

Union South Marketplace Thursday 29 November 7pm to 9pm

Next Thursday the Students’ Union is hosting a talk by Mark Wood, Arctic Explorer. This man goes to the most inhospitable places on the planet by choice. The list of expeditions that he has been a part of is truly staggering:

2007:
Technical support for the Magnetic North Pole Race.
Arctic guide and operational support for the BBC Top Gear programme - 'Race to the Pole'.

2006:
Led an 8-person team on a successful Geomagnetic North Pole expedition.
Instructor on an Arctic training expedition – Northern Canada

2005:
Instructor on an Arctic training program to Norway
Instructor on an Arctic training expedition to Northern Canada

2004:
Part of a successful Geomagnetic North Pole expedition

2003:
Part of 70-day Training expedition and research for CRUK - Canadian High Arctic

You may have noticed that within that list of amazing expeditions was the Top Gear episode 'Race to the Pole'. This saw Clarkson and May race to the North Pole in a Toyota 4x4, whilst Hammond was pulled by a team of huskies. To make sure that the team made it back in one piece, they were aided and advised by Mark and thanks to his training and expert knowledge they all made it back safely.

Mark will be giving a talk on the many adventures he has had throughout his career, and you can also find out about how you could get involved in any future expeditions to this breathtaking area of the world. The talk is totally free and will be a fascinating insight into the world of a real life action man.
