pH-Responsive Microgel Particles: Synthesis, Properties and Applications
Thursday 10th January 2008, 16:15-17:15, Physics Lecture Theatre
Prof. Steve Armes (Sheffield University) will lead this talk on a series of lightly cross-linked, near-monodisperse poly(2-vinylpyridine) latexes via emulsion polymerisation. These swell rapidly and reversibly at low pH due to protonation of the vinylpyridine groups to form microgels.
Careful design of the latex surface chemistry allows the preparation of pH-responsive particles that absorb at the solid/water, oil/water and air/water interfaces.
Attendance is free of charge - Refreshments provided
