What makes Warwick special?

Here's what colleagues are saying about what makes this University special to them

Always aspired to come here - achieved it now as a member of staff: and I haven't been disappointed!

The people; the cultural/cosmopolitan mix; the enthusiasm; the collective sense of wanting the best for the University; the buzz of activity; the sense of optimism and excitement of being part of something real and of significance.

The beautiful outdoor environment inspires me every day!

Fantastic colleagues in my own team and others, and freedom to be creative and innovate.

In the course of my role for Warwick I visit many different Universities and, in my opinion, Warwick is the most complete campus I have experienced so far in the UK. It is clean, well planned, safe, attractive with great facilities. Quite rightly, the campus is held in high regard by staff and visitors from other Universities. The campus makes it a pleasure to arrive at work compared with normal working environments.

Warwick Learning Account - part time degrees!

”GraduationMy mum graduated in 1990, aged 30.

My brother and I went along to the ceremony at Coventry Cathedral. She was so happy to have graduated.

Before I worked here I worked with A level students from deprived backgrounds. On bringing a group to Warwick for an open day I vividly recall the change in the attitudes of the students from: 'Warwick is too posh, too difficult to get in to, not for me' to: 'I like it here, I could fit in, I want to try and get the grades I need for a place at Warwick'. Opportunities like this are essential for breaking down the barriers learners perceive there to be between them and a place at a University like Warwick and Warwick staff and students are especially good at putting learners at ease when they visit.

The people I work with. The people of Warwick are passionate and genuinely care about their work and the students.

Started as a student due to being swayed from Notts by the landscape.

Have found it flexible and supportive as a mother to a young child - decent part time positions.

”LibraryFirst class Library facilities with great customers, resources, services and staff!

Selection of quotes from the Library Survey 2012:

  • “The best feature of the Library is the staff who are ever present and always helpful beyond what you would expect.”
  • “I find the best feature of the library is the sheer range of books that are stocked on and off-site, making it generally easy to find the books that I require.”
  • “It's in the centre of the campus and allows us to rest, learn and meet with people at one's fingertips.”
  • “Large, easy to use. Positioned at the heart of the campus.”
  • “The range of e-resources subscribed to that I can access remotely, and the ease with which I can do it.”
  • “Hello Library Support Staff! I graduate this summer after seven years of study!! I would so like to thank you all for all the help, courtesy and support I have received from you all during my p/t degree - you have been great!”
  • “I was collecting books from the library on Thursday of last week and was helped out by a number of staff at the library for different reasons and I must say every single one of them was delightful, incredibly helpful and really really supportive. I would be delighted to pass on my gratitude for their help that was extremely gratefully appreciated - what a superb team. ”

Staff Student Liaison Committee Feedback

“Library staff are always friendly and helpful. They felt especially grateful that staff would often take the time to go through procedures with them (e.g. reporting missing books, placing holds) and often go to the shelves to help them locate material.”

I married my best university friend's brother - and came back here to work.

Came here for a student placement, now been working here for 6 years! The lovely lady who interviewed me is now my colleague.

I had a place at Warwick but dropped out the day before Arrivals weekend - and yet still got to study and work here - eventually!

Working with people who like ideas!

Warwick has been my only employer...38 years later!

The relatively low crime rate.

Good pay compared to other HEIs.

The people! Alumni, students, staff, they all make up our very special worldwide community and make it a pleasure to work with and for every day.

What makes Warwick special for me is, quite simply, the students. I facilitate the exchanges for Warwick's outgoing exchange students to destinations outside Europe. I am fortunate to have such close contact with students in my job. It is most rewarding to get feedback from so many of them along the lines of their exchange having been the best year of their lives so far. Then, when our students graduate, it is good to see so many of them get Firsts. And at their graduation ceremonies, it is nice when they want to introduce me to their parents, some of whom I will have dealt with by e-mail or phone when arranging their sons' or daughters' exchanges. In 2012-13 we have the largest number of students abroad that we have ever sent out on exchange. I attach a photo of the group whose exchanges I facilitated for this year.
