Come along to the Philosophy Society's Book Sale!

The Philosophy Society is holding a book sale in the Philosophy Common Room (S2.71) this Friday, the 16th January.

Come along to pick up some pre-loved Philosophy books, and if you have any you would like to try and sell on, just come by reception and drop them off any time before the sale.


Call for papers: 2015 Joint Session

There are still three weeks until the deadline for submission of papers for the 2015 Joint Session.

GUIDELINES

  • Submissions must not exceed 2000 words, including footnotes and bibliography, and must begin with a 100-250 word abstract.
  • Submissions should include a title page containing the name of the author, title of the paper, institution, and email address.
  • Submissions may be formatted in Word or PDF. Papers containing symbols liable to distortion should be submitted in PDF.

The closing date for submissions is 1 February 2015.

Find out about Postgraduate Study in Philosophy at Warwick

The Philosophy Department will be putting on an event to provide information to our undergraduates about Postgraduate study in Philosophy at Warwick. This will take place on Thursday 27th November from 5pm, in R3.41. If you think you might be interested in studying philosophy at postgraduate level, you are strongly encouraged to attend.

At this event you will have the opportunity to:

  • Find out from Course Convenors about the postgraduate programmes on offer at the Philosophy Department:- The MPhil in Philosophy, MA in Philosophy, MA in Continental Philosophy, and MA in Philosophy and Literature
  • Find out from our current postgraduate students about what the courses are like and the kinds of topics they research
  • Get advice on how to apply
  • Find out about our Department Scholarships for taught postgraduate courses, including a scholarship competition open only to Warwick undergraduates.

Drinks (including wine) will be available.

Call for papers: Joint Session 2015

The 89th Joint Session of the Aristotelian Society and the Mind Association will be held at the University of Warwick from 10 to 12 July 2015.

There are a large number of Open Session places available, with no restrictions on the areas of philosophy that may be addressed. The intention is to accommodate all philosophical material that is suitable for presentation, though a more selective procedure may have to be adopted in case the number of suitable submissions exceeds the available places. There are 20 minutes available for each Open Session talk (plus an additional 10 minutes for discussion).

Applications now being taken for two new Teaching Fellow posts

The Department is advertising for two new 10 month posts: Teaching Fellow in Moral and Political Philosophy, and Teaching Fellow in Aesthetics.

Postgraduate Philosophy and Literature student, Philip Gaydon, has been awarded a WATEPGR Teaching Excellence Prize

Philip Gaydon, a postgraduate student in the Department has been selected as a winner in this year’s Warwick Awards for Teaching Excellence for Postgraduate Research Students scheme.

The Warwick Awards for Teaching Excellence for Postgraduate Research students (WATEPGR) gives students and staff the opportunity to recognise and celebrate excellent teaching by postgraduate research students. Research students can carry out a range of teaching activities including facilitating seminars,lecturing,demonstrating and project supervision.How the scheme works 

The award aims to recognise and reward postgraduate research students who teach or demonstrate and who have had positive impact on the student learning experience and also to enhance the profile of teaching excellence at the University.

Philip has been awarded a teaching excellence prize of £500, to spend on teaching or research activities.
