Flame of Friendship: Get involved in the celebration

The finale of the Flame of Friendship will take place on campus on the morning of July 8th and we’d love for all staff and students to get involved!

Since late February, a bespoke Olympic-style torch, produced at WMG, has been used for a relay between Coventry schools in celebration of the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris. The torch is going to do the final leg of the relay on campus, from WMG to Butterworth Hall, where 1000+ pupils and teachers will form a procession behind it, pausing in the piazza to do an Olympic themed dance led by the Royal Opera House, before heading into Warwick Arts Centre for a ceremony.

We would love it if staff and students would line the route to cheer them on (between 10-11am) or if anyone, with permission from their line manager, would like to help with the organisation of the event we are looking for 80 ‘Friendship Fellows’ to support school groups, be a marshal, help with check-in etc. If you’d like to be a Friendship Fellow you will need to be available, in-person, from 9am to 11am on Monday 8th July and you would also be welcome to attend the ceremony as a guest from 11am to midday.

We’ll provide more details closer to the time for anyone that wants to cheer them on but if you’d like to volunteer as a Friendship Fellow please send an email to Kerry.baker@warwick.ac.uk who is coordinating the event on behalf of the university.
