On being appointed, Stephanie said:

"I’m very excited about taking on this new role as Academic Director (Sustainability). The University of Warwick has come a long way already, especially in the area of environmental sustainability, but there is still a lot of work to do to achieve the goals we set ourselves in our sustainability strategy, 'The Way to Sustainable'. In order to do this, I will need to spend a substantial amount of time understanding the needs of our community, the work that has already taken place and the priorities we need to set together. This will need the support of all and it will require building bridges across the different faculties, departments, and groups to bring together the knowledge, expertise and the will to achieve our goal of contributing to a fairer, better world for all."

About Stephanie

Stephanie is a Professor in Global Sustainable Development and has been the Head of the School for Cross-Faculty Studies since 2019. She has been researching Cuba for the past twenty years, with a particular interest in Cuban culture, social justice and more recently, Cuba’s involvement in global health.

As Head of the School for Cross-Faculty Studies, she has led on the growth of the UG and PG programmes in the different divisions of the School, while also setting up more recently a new division in Design Studies as well as providing support to the growth of the School’s research Institute, the IGSD.

Stephanie also has a keen interest in Education for Sustainable Development. Last year she co-led the Institutional Teaching and Learning Review common theme on Educational Sustainable Development (ESD) and became a member of ESSAG (Environmental and Social Sustainability Action Group), providing input on the education strand of the University’s Sustainability Strategy. She also co-directs the recently launched ESD at Warwick Network.
