New requirements for access to campus buildings

The majority of buildings on campus are now closed and card access suspended. The only buildings that remain open are those needed to deliver critical business activity. This is part of our commitment to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all our staff, students and visitors.

Access permissions

Permission to access buildings has been given in line with the University's strategic priority to protect welfare by ensuring only a limited number of staff stay on/attend campus for critical activities. Those staff have been designated by Heads of Department and approved by the University's UEB Gold team. No other access is permitted for the time being.

Guidance for HoDs on assessment of critical activities and giving approval can be found here.

If you require ad hoc access and this has not been approved, please complete an online request form to secure permission from your head of department.

If you have a delivery scheduled to arrive on campus, please check the advice from the procurement team.

The following guidance will be provided directly to those staff:

- Use the 24/7 confidential Employee Assistance Programme for any personal and professional problems during this time, or contact your departmental HR adviser for information and employment advice or Wellbeing Support Services on campus via on 024 7657 5570.

- Take the following precautions in campus buildings:

  • Follow NHS requirements on social distancing at all times.
  • Do not use lifts in any campus buildings; lifts should only be used for transporting materials and equipment. Find out more about passenger lift suspension and accessibility. If this is going to cause problems for you, please discuss with your line manager and contact Estates via the service desk for support.
  • Do not use showers in non-residential or conference centre buildings due to reduced water flushing.
  • Do not drink tap water in any non-residential or conference centre unless it has been boiled.
