Aid collection at the Belgrade Theatre

The Belgrade Theatre was named after the city of Belgrade after it gave Coventry the gift of a large amount of timber to help build the theatre following the devastation of WWII. Now it’s our turn to repay that act of kindness by supporting the people of our twin city Belgrade and the people of Serbia, Bosnia and Croatia as they try to rebuild their lives following devastating floods which have caused mass destruction.

There are a series of events at the Belgrade Theatre to raise awareness of this issue so please do come along, enjoy the events and make a donation. Please bring items to the Belgrade Theatre between 11.30am – 1.30pm on Thursday 29 – Saturday 31 May.

Thursday 29 May: Children’s story time by Imagination Reading Cafes and an opportunity to meet and have a photo taken with Lady Godiva of Coventry and ‘Princess Milica’ of Serbia.

Friday 30 May: Learn the Serbian Language and songs. Write a letter or draw a picture to show your support.

Saturday 31 May: Nightingales Choir. Serbian songs. Also you are invited to meet and have a photo taken with the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Coventry between 12.30pm – 1.30pm.

Any donation, big or small, will be gratefully received. The most urgent aid items needed are: Baby food, baby nappies, adult nappies, disinfectants, toiletries, canned food, bottled water, bedding, blankets and folding beds. All donations will be dispatched to the Serbian Embassy in London, from where they will be flown to the Red Cross for distribution across the region.
