In memoriam: John Horsler

The University is deeply saddened by news of the death of John Horsler from Health and Safety Services, following a long battle with prostate cancer.

John Phillips, Director of Health and Safety, said:

"John was our beloved friend and colleague and will be much missed. He joined the University in November 2016 as the Health and Safety Officer aligned to the Physics Department, where he worked tirelessly to enhance health and safety arrangements to the benefit of staff and students, helping the department to ultimately achieve ISO45001 certification.

He loved helping colleagues carry out their risk assessments for the Physics Christmas Lectures where he combined his sense of fun with his professionalism. John also worked on projects across other departments, including Chemistry and the University's Research Technology Platforms.

John was deeply committed to his family and to his Christian faith. He sought to live this out not only as a lay preacher, and active member of the Methodist church but in every part of his professional and personal life.

John will be remembered for his friendly and open approach, his calm and analytical manner, his warmth, care for others and his professionalism, but we also remember John as a friend, colleague, husband and father. John leaves his wife Lynne, son Daniel and daughter Marie."
