Local tiers from 2 December and arrangements at Warwick

Following the UK Government’s announcement on local restriction tiers that come into place on 2 December 2020, we are writing to confirm arrangements at the University.

We recognise how much information we’re having to share about Coronavirus at the moment (and how exhausting this feels for many), so we’re just sharing key details to make sure you are up to date. We will share more practical guidance in the coming days, and update the stay safe webpages.

Coventry and Warwickshire

Our region will operate under the Government’s “Tier 3 restrictions” from 2 December. There is due to be a regular review of tiers by Government and these restrictions will be reviewed on 16 December.

For students, this means:

  • no mixing of kitchen groups/households inside or outdoors
  • they can meet in groups of six in outdoor public spaces
  • campus cafes, bars and restaurants will provide a takeaway service only. Online ordering is also available through CampusEats.
  • Outdoor exercise can continue in line with appropriate Covid safety requirements, as can indoor sport like the gym and swimming, but other indoor exercise can only be with others in the same kitchen groups/households.

Teaching, research and services

Our end of Term 1 teaching plans are unchanged. In Term 2 we intend to continue to offer all students a blended teaching approach from the start of term on 11 January 2021.

We know how much students value the combination of face to face and online learning, and this continued commitment reflects our recognition that this blended model gives students the best possible experience of study at Warwick.

Whilst teaching and key service and research staff continue to work on campus, other staff should continue to work from home wherever possible in order to limit travel. This will help us to manage the numbers of people on campus and ensure appropriate social distancing.

Wellbeing support

We are continuing our outbound wellbeing calls to all students who need to self-isolate, and we have a dedicated self- isolation support line too.

Staff can access wellbeing support sessions and resources through our Staff Wellbeing Hub and get confidential advice through the Employee Assistance Programme.

Arrivals for term 2

We are still awaiting further detail from Government on how this will work in January and will share it as soon as we can, to help students to make practical plans for their safe return to the University in the New Year.

Student experience in term 2

Campus will still be the safe, secure place it’s been since the start of the academic year. Through Warwick Presents, we’ve uncovered new ways in which we’ll make it a fun, imaginative place now and for students' return in Term 2.

We’re bringing street food, entertaining activities, and arts and music to the heart of Warwick. It’s a programme that will change and grow in the way Warwick always has. And, throughout the upcoming months, we’ll ensure that the wellbeing of the Warwick community remains a priority, with every activity delivered in line with the most up-to-date UK government and Public Health England guidance.

Stay informed

We will continue to provide guidance and support to help you to understand and follow these requirements and keep our community safe. This includes regular updates via the website, via email, on digital signage and on social media.

Student Experience Ambassadors on campus will continue to provide guidance, and students can continue to get wellbeing support through the residential life team on campus, our student support helpline and dedicated support for students who need to self-isolate.

We also continue to work closely with public health and local authorities to ensure we can adapt our plans if we need to.

Thank you for your continued support to keep our community safe.
