Long Service Awards profile: Wendy Roberts

Name: Wendy Roberts

Job title: General Manager, Warwick Accommodation

Department: Estates

Number of years at Warwick: 20

There’s no such thing as a typical day, but, in brief, my job involves...

Being very busy!

I am proud of my team of 600 and the contribution they make to the student, staff & visitor experience.

My team consists of Campus Cleaning Services, Student accommodation allocations, Off-campus housing, Staff & family housing and Student reception.

My time is generally taken up with new build projects and annual refurbishments of c. £6m; at the moment we are building the Cryfield Village for 830 residents. We look after 10,000 students on & off-campus and support the conference business all year round. We are continually looking at business improvements to support all our students and visitors.

I work closely with the Director of Finance & Estates as we prepare the strategy for our on & off campus portfolio of accommodation.

My most memorable moment at Warwick has been...

The department has been recognised for its excellence both nationally & internationally which is a credit to all involved. I was also honoured to be in the audience to hear the last overseas address given by President Clinton.

In my time at Warwick, the biggest change I’ve seen is...

The growth in the accommodation stock: an additional 3,000 bedrooms on campus and 1,500 rooms off-campus. We have continuously adapted to exceed the requirements and expectations of our customers.

Warwick's kept me here because...

I work with an amazing group of people who continually put the student first and rise to any situation regardless of day or time and offer me great support on a daily basis.

I also laugh a lot as even the toughest of challenges, I know we will get through.

At the moment I'm really enjoying working on...

The Cryfield Village project which is a different design to previous builds as it’s a new town house concept with a village hall, and I enjoy working with the architects and project manager to ensure the end product suits our customers’ needs.

The best thing about Warwick is...

The wide range of dedicated and professional people that you meet and clearly care about the overall experience of all visitors to our campus.

My favourite place on campus is...

Looking at the residencies in the evenings at the start of term when the students are enjoying their early days at Warwick and making lifelong friends.
