Macbeth: Blood Will Have Blood

Macbeth
Schoolchildren will experience a special performance of Macbeth this Saturday, 9 February 2013, as part of Triggered@Warwick, Warwick Arts Centre’s commissioning and artist development programme.

The sold-out performance of ‘Macbeth – Blood Will Have Blood’ is an immersive and unforgettable reimagining of Shakespeare’s Macbeth for children aged 9 to 13. The production aims to reach children in areas with low arts engagement, and has been offered to carefully targeted schools.

This exciting and technically ambitious new work lands the children right at the centre of the tragedy, conjuring the supernatural world of Macbeth all around them using movie-quality sound and projections. Led by the Porter, the young audience will be guided, coaxed, goaded and challenged as they witness Shakespeare’s bloodiest tragedy up close, interacting with the play’s action and themes at every turn.

As part of the experience, each participating school will have access to a unique learning package, including a Mythodrama workshop, which harnesses the power of storytelling and mythology, and an online education resource, which frames students as characters within the world of the play, and charges them with making crucial decisions and driving the narrative forward.

‘Macbeth – Blood Will Have Blood’ is a unique collaboration between educationalists Contender Charlie, theatre producers China Plate and Warwick Arts Centre. The project is funded through the Arts Council’s Strategic Touring Programme.
