Warwick Wonders
The Warwick Wonders Award celebrates the people we are proud to work with at our University. It recognises colleagues who have gone above and beyond to make a positive difference and enrich our community.
Part 1
Stuart: So today for our Wonder, we're somewhere that many of you would recognise, and in fact, if we were doing this shot outside, you would recognise the Nursery, but it's freezing cold and pouring with rain.
So instead, I'm inside in Debbie, the manager's office, and we are ready to go and surprise the Wonder winner, which is Claire Carey, who has been nominated for just the energy and commitment and love that she gives to the kids in the nursery.
So let's go and hopefully give Claire a wonderful surprise. We have these things called Wows and Wonders. Okay? And people get nominated...oh my God... for brilliant stuff. And guess what?
Yeah, yeah. You've been nominated and yes, Yes, yes, you've won as well. Oh my gosh. And, and what, what we were told about you is you are fantastically enthusiastic, incredibly committed.
Claire: Oh my God.
Stuart: Always go the extra mile or 10, really, really working to make a difference with the kids and make them feel they're comfortable at home. And we want to say thank you. And you're looking wonderfully overwhelmed.
Claire: I didn't expect it at all. Oh my Gosh.
Stuart: We have the gold envelope. Oh, and of course we've got the certificate to say thank you.
Claire: oh my God, that's just amazing.
Stuart: Thank you for being so brilliant. But most importantly, Oh we have, he star. Because you're a star for doing everything.
Claire: Thank you so much. Didn't expect this at all. Thank you so much.
Stuart: Thank you ever so much.
Part 2
Stuart: So now it's time for our team award, our Wow award to the team that has done the most amazing things.
And it's Warwick Presents because the Warwick Presents team have done just fantastic things from the welcome week when our new students arrived right through to all the series of festivals that are going through the year.
The person I'm going to give this to is Poonam Pedley, who's done a personally fantastic work herself, walking all over campus, driving the team, but the whole team deserves our great thanks.
So let's go and give an award to Warwick Presents.
Hello, hello, hello, hello. We have our wonderful Wows and Wonders. And people nominate and say, individuals and teams have done wonderful things, don't they?
And guess what? What's happened? You're the winners. You are the winners or this amazing, first of all, that welcome week. How many, how many events? How many events? How many events?
Team: 17.
And then of course for all the big festival activities, you know, through the year as well. Giving people that sense of connection to home, giving that sense of connection to community here.
It's just been fantastic. And you know...oh my god..you know this amazing, wonderful reception that it's had, you know that. And uh, it's been fantastic. So, so thank you to you all.
But we're gonna pick on one person. Because at the end of the day, you have to pick on one person. No, no, no. This is the person who's been nominated and picked upon.
Poonam: No! Oh my God.
Stuart: Yes. Poonam to represent everybody. No, we did it all together. I know, I know, I know you can't read now because you're crying, but you know, there's that.
But most importantly, dear team, you are the stars. You are the stars. Brilliant. Thank you all so very, very much.
Claire Carey - Warwick Nursery
Claire Carey, Senior Early Years Educator, has won the Warwick Wonder Award, recognising how she is a ‘constant source of energy’ for the people around her. She always goes above and beyond in her role to address the children’s individual needs, especially those with Special Educational Needs and those with English as a second language.
When Claire found out she won the award, she said:
"I am very honoured to be given the award, I am very grateful for the acknowledgement and recognition that receiving the award has given me. I have an amazing team which enables us to support children and families we care for. I am so proud of myself and the Nursery team and that we are able to celebrate the great work we do. "
After hearing about Claire's win, our Vice-Chancellor Stuart Croft said:
"Claire gives so much energy, commitment and love to the children – she really goes the extra mile to help them feel at home in the Nursery.”
Warwick Wows
The Warwick Wows celebrate amazing work, projects, and achievements at the University.
Warwick Presents
The Warwick Presents team won the Warwick Wow award in recognition for their brilliant student events, including Holi, Lunar New Year and Thanksgiving Lunch.
The team listen to students to ensure Warwick hosts celebrations that embrace different cultures and remind people of home.
The nomination highlighted a particular team member, Poonam Pedley, who focuses on creating cultural events that are authentic and inclusive for our diverse community.
After accepting her team's award, Poonam said:
"What a lovely surprise this was! The whole team are so passionate about wanting students from all backgrounds to feel welcome and included, helping students to establish connections with each other and to feel part of the Warwick community. I definitely want to share that it's the dedication of our whole team which allows us to achieve so much together. It's so nice to see our work recognised in this way."
Stuart Croft, our Vice-Chancellor, had this to say about their win:
“The Warwick Presents team put on fantastic events for students, from Welcome Week to the series of festivals we have throughout the year. These events help people connect with their home and with our community – well done!"
Congratulations to all ourwinners and thank you to everyone who submitted a nomination. We'll open up nominations again during Term 2! In the meantime, be sure to get thinking about who you might put forward to be a Wonder or a Wow...
