Can you tell us a little bit about your role?

I’m the clerk of works for the electrical and the mechanical works, checking on the Installation quality/specification and the materials used.

How have you been involved in the Oculus Building project?

I have carried out the above role for this project.

What do you like best about the building?

The building is not an off the shelf product hence the design is new and many features are bespoke to the project.

What challenges have you faced in your work on the building?

A build with many features/services and accessories, to be served via alternative routes to keep the ceiling free of any services to enhance the main glulam beam feature roof.

Now that it’s open, what’s the next thing you’re working on?

I’m currently working on many refurbishments around the University and one large new build - the National Automotive Innovation Centre (NAIC).
