Oculus Building staff profiles: Peter Griffin
Name: Peter Griffin
Job Title: Clerk of Works
Department: Estates
Can you tell us a little bit about your role?
I am the Building and Civils Clerk of Works responsible for ensuring our contractors comply with the Specification, Scope of Works and Health and Safety requirements whilst on site. I also oversee the standards and quality of workmanship carried out by the various trades.
How have you been involved in the Oculus Building project?
I have carried out my duties as described above throughout the construction of the building.
What do you like best about the building?
The central Glulam beam span across the lecture theatres between the two end buildings provides a rather striking look and internally the appearance of the timber beam and panel ceiling of the 500 seat lecture theatre is a work of art.
What challenges have you faced in your work on the building?
It is not a standard traditional build and some quite innovative complex construction methods have been used to achieve the overall look of the building and the high level of finish required.
Now that it’s open, what’s the next thing you’re working on?
Currently working on the new flat floor conference facility at Radcliffe, which is due to open early November 2016 and three new residences blocks at Sherbourne, due for completion in the Summer 2017.
