Consultation planned for evening and weekend car parking charges
Planned evening and weekend car parking charges have been postponed, pending consultation.
Warwick, like many other organisations, has declared a climate emergency. To help us reduce our emissions, and achieve our carbon reduction goals, the University had announced that it would introduce charges for weekend and evening car parking on the campus. These new charges would help directly discourage car use, and would also help us to continue to invest in sustainable transport on and to the campus including; cycling provision, bus subsidies and the shuttle buses.
However, a number of staff, students and visitors to the campus have asked the University to take more time to assess how the university can encourage and enhance sustainable transport, how the new charges might impact on areas such as the University’s public engagement activities and how we work with our local community.
The University will now defer the introduction of the new weekend and evening parking charges until January 2020 in order to take time this term to consult with staff, students, and visitors to the campus on the operation of those new weekend and evening charges.
