Research Executive welcomes new members Professor Fabienne Peter and Professor Jon Coaffee

Deputy Chair of Faculty for Social Sciences Professor Jon Coaffee has been appointed to the role of Deputy Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research), where he will focus upon research impact, governance and ethics.   

Professor Fabienne Peter (Department of Philosophy) has been appointed to the role of Academic Director for Research and will lead on interdisciplinary initiatives, research communications, and on partnerships within the Arts and Social Sciences.  


Professor Jon Coaffee has been a senior academic within the Department of Politics and International Studies for the last decade and has worked as Director of the Midlands Graduate School and the Warwick Institute for the Science of Cities.  

He has delivered multiple large-scale research projects in partnership with international academic institutions, governments and industry, and is a leader in the delivery of interdisciplinary research that has a significant social and economic impact. Jon will oversee the roll out of The University of Warwick’s new Research Impact Delivery Plan and establishment of its Research Impact Academy.  

Commenting on his appointment, Jon said: “I’m delighted to be taking on this role in leading the enhancement of the real world social and economic research impact work across campus and contributing to preparation for the next Research Excellence Framework exercise in 2028.”  


Professor Caroline Meyer, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research), added: “I am really excited that Jon has joined the Research Executive team.  I’m certain Jon will make an invaluable contribution, particularly with respect to research impact.” 

Fabienne Peter is a Professor in the Department of Philosophy, serving as Head of Department from 2017 – 2020. She is President-Elect of the Aristotelian Society.

Fabienne’s areas of expertise are ethics and political philosophy. She is well-known for her work at the intersection of philosophy and politics, especially on democracy and political legitimacy. Fabienne has a background in economics, and she helped develop the Warwick Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE)Link opens in a new window programme. She will oversee the rollout of the new Spotlights framework, and lead on research communications, and on partnerships within the Arts and Social Sciences.  

Commenting on her appointment, Fabienne said: “I’m thrilled to be taking on this role and supporting research at the University! I’m a strong believer in the value of university research, and in the quality of research at Warwick. The role feels like a particularly good fit, as my whole career has been interdisciplinary. I’m looking forward to supporting new research collaborations and to help strengthen the visibility of our excellent research.”
