Original Message

IT Services are aware of problems with the Vodafone mobile phone network on-campus. This is due to a Vodafone infrastructure failure.

Due to a power failure at the Vodafone equipment site, mobile phone coverage around central campus is severely degraded. Vodafone are unable to explain the cause of the power failure or give a firm resolution date/time. IT Services have escalated the issue to senior management in Vodafone and made them aware of the significant disruption and inconvenience being caused.

In the meantime, we'd advise you to switch all devices to "2G only". Once done, your mobile/tablet should be able to deal with calls, texts and emails successfully, although internet browsing and downloading may be slower. You can do this as follows:

iPhone 4S
  1. Settings
  2. General
  3. Network
  4. Toggle off 3G
iPhone 5
  1. Settings
  2. Cellular
  3. Toggle off 3G

If you are still experiencing problems with your mobile after trying the above methods, please report this via the online Help Desk or telephone 024 765 73737.
