Getting to and around campus

Read about the vision for transport and mobility and the initiatives that are on the way.

Find out the changes coming to car parking, and a new bus service.

Our future campus

Covid-19 is having a transformative impact on all our lives. It’s changing how we work, travel, socialise, and behave. It has made us think differently, it’s forced us to reconsider our approach and it has accelerated our plans for change.

We’re now in an exciting partnership with Transport for West Midlands who are piloting new transport initiatives across the region. Some of the changes you’ll soon see on campus are a part of this pilot, as we enact our plans to create a more sustainable campus.

What’s changing soon

From 1 October you’ll start to see some changes on main campus which will help us to achieve this vision.

New bus service

We’re launching a new bus service connecting the campus to Coventry Pool Meadow Station, Tile Hill railway station, and Cannon Park shopping centre. The service is subsidised by the University and journeys for staff and students will cost just £1. View the route.

Car parking changes

As we approach the Autumn term, we’re letting you know about a wide range of changes for car users, including:

  • Cashless, touchless ‘Pay By Phone’ payments
  • New parking prices, evening and weekend charges and reinstatement of permits
  • Car park changes
  • FlexiPay parking scratch cards and multi-mode trial to end

Changes will take place from 1 October onwards, so please consider your options now if you plan to drive to campus. View the details and explore your options.

Income will be reinvested into smart parking infrastructure and into creating sustainable transport solutions to improve connections within the region.

Increased pedestrian space

Some areas of campus will become pedestrianised. This is to help make walking and cycling safer and more convenient, as well as helping us to manage traffic and air pollution. View the latest campus map.

Limiting the number of people on campus

At the moment, only those staff who need to work on campus will be returning, with many of us continuing to work from home. Longer term, agile working guidelines will be expanded which will help to manage the amount of people and traffic on campus.

Coming up

Longer term, you’ll be able to take advantage of:

A Car Club rental scheme

A car club scheme will be introduced, so if you came to campus without your car but need to go off campus on University business, you’ll be able to hire a car to do so.

A new Demand, Response Transit Service (DRT)

This new service is a hybrid of a taxi and a bus, which works using virtual bus stops.  It will be useful for getting around different areas of campus, our Wellesbourne campus and the local area.

Until the DRT launches, we’ll be providing a free service to and from the Wellesbourne campus, via Leamington Spa.

New sustainable transport

Other sustainable transport options will become available, such as autonomous vehicles.

Look out for more information on these over the coming months.

What do I need to do?

Car users: Consider your options and if appropriate, cancel your permit during September to avoid any charges. If you change your mind at a later date, it’s easy to reactivate it.

Returning to campus? Plan your route and parking location carefully, as your driving routes around campus might need to change. View the campus map

Stay safe when travelling: check the safety guidance for public transport and cycling.

If you manage a team, please make sure your team are aware of these changes so they can consider any impact on their travel plans.
