Joan Miles, who died of a stroke in February, was Jack (later Lord) Butterworth’s Personal Assistant from 1971 to 1984. She had previously worked at the Arts Council and as PA to the Secretary of Makerere University in Uganda.

Obituary - Alex Sproat (1948 - 2007)

Alex Sproat, the founding director of Jobs.ac.uk, has died after a struggle with cancer.

Dr Andrew Mead, from Warwick HRI has been elected to the Presidency of the International Biometrics society for the years 2008-2010. He will preside over the 24th International Biometrics Conference in Dublin in 2008.

Professor Andrew Stuart, from the Institute of Mathematics, is to receive the 2007 JD Crawford Prize from the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) for his outstanding contributions to the fields of stochastic ordinary and partial differential equations.

Gillian Owen, Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Management Under Regulation, Warwick Business School, has been appointed to the Board of the Water Services Regulation Authority (Ofwat) as a non-executive director.
