Professor Maxine Berg awarded ERC Fellowship

Professor Maxine Berg, Director of the Global History and Culture Centre, has been awarded a European Research Council Fellowship from September 2010 to August 2014.

Professor Berg, along with three postdoctoral fellows, a PhD student and a museums consultant, will work on a project named "Europe's Asian Centuries: Trading Eurasia 1600-1830".

This project will involve a comparative study of Europe’s trade with India and China in quality textiles, porcelain and other fine manufactured objects. It will bring global perspectives and interdisciplinary methods to bear on histories of industrialization, consumer society and material culture, drawing on the records of Europe’s East India companies, the records of private traders and the collections of major museums.
