Vice-Chancellor Professor Nigel Thrift has received Distinguished Scholarship Honors from the Association of American Geographers (AAG). Each year, the AAG Honors Committee invites nominations for awards recognizing outstanding contributions to the advancement or welfare of the discipline and Professor Thrift was nominated for 2007.
On honouring him with this award, the AAG said: "…. He has distinguished himself through a lifetime of work as a scholar, teacher, researcher, and university administrator. …He has left his mark on geography by shaping the agenda and prompting innovation in many of its subfields, and has influenced peers throughout the social sciences by convincing them that space remains a key organizing principle in social life."
