Nets Guidance and Behaviour Standards
Before the session
- Book in advance, online or via the phone and/or Sports Hub Reception desk
- Pay your entry fee if you are external to the University, ITS CC pays for the bats, balls, pads, gloves, helmets, bowling machine, not Warwick Sport - Let's not risk losing these sessions in the future
- If you intend to bring large (10+) numbers of teammates friends please tell us in advance, it’s hugely stressful and demanding when that situation occurs
- If you want time on the bowling machine, get there earlier and liaise with Chris a week in advance preferably
- Bring your own personal equipment, this reduces stress for all players, improves your performance and comfort levels and prevents the need to borrow equipment from colleagues
- Going to be late, can only attend for 1 hour or 1.5 hours? - come at the end of the session to help pack away
Start of the session
Help set up!
1. Wheel the mats from the void. 2. Lay the mats in the 4 lanes. 3. Fully unhook the netting from the back wall 4. Unhook the sightscreen netting and pull across the back wall. 5. Move the trolley to a safe place against the back wall. Do not put the trolley close to netting as this creates holes in the netting as it gets tangled up. 6. Set up the stumps.
Need to leave early for legitimate reasons? Inform one of the Cricket Activators immediately.
During the session
- Behave in a respectful, patient and calm manner at all times
- Be patient when waiting for a bat, don’t whinge or moan or groan, it's neither productive nor constructive
- Don’t hog the batting lane and stay longer than is fair to all of your teammates and colleagues
- Don’t come late and leave early if you can possibly avoid it (exceptions apply obviously)
- Don’t leave early after you have had your bat, continue to bowl and support your colleagues and teammates
- Listen to activators who attend and run/coordinate the sessions as volunteers in their own time with no payment for the services they provide. Normally this is Chris, Sukhi but can also be Joe, Ankur, Dani etc
- Too busy? Apply two batsmen per net (rotate every 6 balls)
- Respect the equipment - ITS CC has spent £2,000 in the last two years to support these sessions, typically we lose £350 per year in bats alone due to damage/breakages and in previous years we have even lost equipment to theft
- Be mindful that the team kit typically contains two sets of everything, if both sets are out and in use, please show a level of patience
- Report any issues with equipment, facilities or any individuals to Chris, Joe or Sukhi in the first instance
- Any medical issues or if there is a requirement for first aid, please contact the Sports Centre Reception staff in the first instance whilst also notifying an activator
