Once again we must thank the Lord Rootes memorial fund for the wonderful time that we had in Sri Lanka.
We found our travel and tourism experiences in Sri Lanka very enlightening. Locals told us that the industry showed a dramatic decline in the numbers of tourists in the season following the tsunami, but with an influx of volunteers into the area. The following season, tourism also was declining due to the fighting on the east of the island. Just as it was beginning to pick up, the Tamil Tigers struck the south western port town of Galle, a very popular tourist destination. This is may have an impact on tourism in the south west of the island as this region was previously considered safe.
We hope that the troubles in Sri Lanka can be resolved so that tourists can continue to explore this wonderful island and take home many happy memories.
