Dr Raquel Nunes, Assistant Professor in Environmental Change and Public Health, University of Warwick, said: “This survey brings to light a stark reality: the most vulnerable in society, including the elderly, the youngest, and those with pre-existing health conditions, face heightened risks. The problem spans various vulnerabilities, from human and financial to physical and social. The link between cold homes and health issues is a critical public health concern. Decisionmakers must adopt a holistic approach to address the interconnected challenges of housing, health, and vulnerability. Failing to act not only jeopardizes public health but strains healthcare systems and costs lives.”
