Brexit: Government insists UK will leave customs union - expert comment
The UK government has restated its commitment to leaving the EU's custom union - ahead of a symbolic vote on the issue this week. Dr Kirill Pogorelskiy, Assistant Professor of Economics, comments.
"I think given the trade balance between the UK and the EU, leaving the customs union is not a good idea economically.
"However, it is part of the Brexit negotiations and it is the overall result of these negotiations that will matter in the long run.
"Trade-offs are inevitable."
