GPs should take trust and use bravery - expert comment from Dr James Gill
Dr James Gill, GP and teaching fellow at Warwick Medical School, comments on the new NICE guidelines on prescribing antibiotics for sore throats.
He says: "Most, but not all, sore throats don’t need antibiotics. Patients put great trust in their doctors not to do them harm, but that also means the doctors must take that trust, and use bravery to help protect their patients. That can mean saying no to things like antibiotics and helping the patient to understand that 'easy' is not always best or safe.”
