Matt Buttery, UK & Ireland CEO of international parenting programme Triple P, has joined University of Warwick Faculty of Social Sciences as an Honorary Associate Professor in Family and Parenting Practice and Policy.

The University has announced that Mr Buttery has accepted the three-year appointment, taking up the position immediately. Matt will share his expertise and experience of family and parenting policy and practice to support the work of academics and students alongside exploring opportunities to collaborate in new research.

As the current CEO of Triple P UK & Ireland, Mr Buttery holds responsibility for the dissemination of the Triple P - Positive Parenting Programme across the region. He has held various senior roles in the voluntary, statutory and private sectors and has influenced and implemented health and social care policy internationally. He is also a former Trustee of the UK’s National Academy for Parenting Practitioners.

Matt has already collaborated significantly with researchers in the Centre for Educational Development Appraisal and Research at Warwick on parenting for families of children and young people with intellectual disability or autism, and for families of teenagers at the edge of care. Support for families of children with additional needs and families of young people who face mental health and other challenges are shared passions that Matt and the research team will focus on together.

Speaking on the Associate Professorship, Buttery said: “I’m honoured to be joining one of the world’s leading Universities, and I’m excited to continue to work with Professors Hastings and Gray and their fantastic team. They are doing hugely important research in the family and parenting space, including with parents of young people with intellectual disabilities, anxiety, and those on the edge of care.

“This role provides a further opportunity to translate high quality research and evidence into policy and practice and ensure evidence-based support is available for families to access – and therein makes a tangible, positive impact to their lives.”
