The University of Warwick named one of the best universities in the world for sustainability
The University of Warwick has been ranked 27th in the UK in the 2025 QS World University Rankings for Sustainability.
The QS World University Rankings for Sustainability recognises the steps universities worldwide are taking to tackle the greatest Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) challenges.
Warwick has been ranked 117th overall out of 1751 global universities, 56th in Europe, and 27th in the UK.
Professor Stéphanie Panichelli-Batalla, Academic Director for Sustainability said, “We have recently embarked on the second phase of our sustainability journey. Our aim is to create a more ambitious framework that spans all aspects of the university – teaching, research and operations, by setting clear, measurable goals that address the environmental and social impact of our activities, alongside a focus on governance.
“This includes the establishment of a new Sustainability Committee, and the launch of an initiative to refresh our sustainability strategy. As part of these efforts, we are proud to have become signatories of the UK Concordat for Environmental Sustainability in Research and Innovation Practice.”
The rankings, which have been announced today (December 10th 2024), are calculated using publicly available information. Information has also been previously submitted by universities to QS in relation to sustainability goals.
The rankings cover three categories – Environmental Impact, Social Impact, and Governance.
Parvez Islam, Director of Environmental Sustainability and Infrastructure, said “With our focus on sustainability now firmly established as the 5th strategic goal of the University, we are revisiting our sustainability strategy and taking stock of where we stand and how we move forward with greater drive and ambition.
“The key to this is taking on board feedback from our valued communities including staff and students to help enhance our methodology in order to be at the forefront of sustainability with our research, education and campus operations, which in turn will further enhance our standing on the national and global stage.”
