Statement on the Passing of Ratan Tata from Stuart Croft, Vice Chancellor, University of Warwick.

It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Ratan Tata, a visionary leader and a cherished friend of our University and region. Throughout his remarkable career, he led Tata Group with profound effectiveness, rescuing Jaguar Land Rover and in doing so, creating jobs and securing futures for countless people in the West Midlands. His extraordinary contributions were rightly honoured when he was made a Freeman of the City of Coventry.

Together with our own Lord Bhattacharyya, Mr Tata was instrumental in establishing the National Automotive Innovation Centre, a beacon of research and development that has left an indelible mark on the automotive industry. He was inspirational in the development of WMG, and so many colleagues will remember him very warmly. His commitment and unwavering support for our University community will always be remembered. His partnership with Kumar Bhattacharyya was remarkable.

Personally, I will always recall Mr Tata as a man of deep faith, humility, and exceptional care for humanity. He was a person of great culture and sophistication, whose influence extended far beyond business into the lives of so many people around the world. He will be sorely missed.

On behalf of The University of Warwick, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the entire Tata community.
