Roots in Nature

Join Kaz and Tim from Roots in Nature CiC in this year’s Words for Wellbeing Talking Circle

A warm, structured space to share stories and practise deep listening to one another, to ourselves, and to the world around us.

What to expect?

The Talking Circle will last for 1 hour and 15 minutes. To honour the shared trust and confidentiality of the space, we ask that everyone joins on time. Once the session begins, the circle will be closed to latecomers.

Two Talking Circle sessions are available:
Location: FAB Room 1.06Link opens in a new window, accessible by stairs or lift.

Session 1: 12:15 PM – 1:30 PM
Session 2: 2:30 PM – 3:45 PM

Please meet in the Agora foyer by 12:05 PM for Session 1 or 2:20 PM for Session 2.
We will gather briefly, then walk to the room together 5 minutes before the session starts.
Numbers are limited to 10 participants per session on a first come basis.
Kaz and Tim will be in the Agora when not in session and welcome short surgery chats.

Please note: late arrivals will not be admitted once the circle begins, to maintain a trusted and confidential space.

About the Facilitators

Kaz is a freelance youth and community worker passionate about growing food and spending time outdoors. For over eight years, she’s been involved in women’s and talking circles, and has facilitated groups for Survivors Sanctuary and other women’s organisations in Coventry. She also weaves circle practice into her work at Feeding Coventry, where she runs weekly community gardening sessions.

Tim is a freelance community worker focused on helping people feel safe and connected in outdoor spaces. He has led talking circles for Coventry City Council’s Children’s Services and supported men through groups with Curious Boys and Girls Club and Forward Fathers, aiming to improve mental health and reduce isolation. For the past seven years, he’s also run a regular men’s group.

Together, Kaz and Tim lead nature-based activities at community events in Coventry, combining their skills in facilitation, outdoor engagement, and wellbeing.

With curiosity and compassion, we’ll explore the themes of Rest, Recovery, and Resilience. One by one, we’ll take turns to speak, while others listen deeply, not to respond, but to truly hear.

We’ll sit together in a circle, equal and connected. Kaz and Tim will offer a few simple intentions to guide our time, gentle prompts that support safe sharing, mindful speaking, and respectful listening.

Is it for me?

The Talking Circle is open to university staff, students, and members of the wider community. The circle format is designed to reflect equality and mutual respect, creating a safe, confidential environment where everyone feels heard and valued.

Benefits of attending.

By the end of the session, you will have:

  • Experienced a specific approach to sitting in and participating in a Talking Circle
  • Shared your own stories and listened deeply to others
  • Felt truly heard in return
  • Gained a sense of connection, belonging, and community with others in the space
