Special Issue – Research Cultures: Expressions of Interest

Following the highly successful publication of two previous volumes dedicated to the International Research Culture Conference, the National Centre for Research Culture and Institute of Advanced Study (IAS) at Warwick, are delighted to announce a third volume drawing on the 2025 event. As in previous years accepted papers will appear within the pages of Exchanges: The Interdisciplinary Research Journal (ISSN 2053-9665), a title published by the IAS since 2013.

As in previous years all conference contributors and delegates are therefore invited to submit papers drawing on their papers, posters or pieces based on their reflections on conference experiences. It is anticipated that one or more issues of Exchanges dedicated to research culture papers will be published in late summer 2027.

Timeline & Deadlines

Expressions of Interest: Friday, 6 Nov 2026

Invitation to Submit: Friday, 27 Nov 2026

Reviewer/Associate Editor Applications: Friday, 11 Dec 2026

Paper Submissions: Friday, 29 Jan 2027

Anticipated Publication: Late August/Early Sept 2027

Where prospective contributors may need small extensions to these deadlines, they are advised to contact the Editor-in-Chief no later than one week prior to the specific date, to avoid disappointment. Due to the extra time required to handle peer-reviewed submissions, authors are strongly encouraged to submit these well in advance of the final submission deadline.

Any papers which have not been formally accepted for publication by mid-August, will not appear in the special issue, but will instead appear a later issue of Exchanges instead.

Alongside publication, Exchanges also embraces a mission to support researchers' development of high quality authorial, reviewing and editorial skills through its practices, editorial opportunities and contributions at workshops, seminars and conferences. A companion podcast series, the Exchanges Discourse, featuring author insights, publishing advice and career explorations is now in its sixth season.
