Celebrating 10 years of the Research Technology Platforms
In 2024 we are celebrating 10 years of the Research Technology Platform (RTP) programme, which has grown from 5 RTPs in 2014 to 13 RTPs, with 70 dedicated technical staff.
On 18 September we welcomed colleagues from across the University to a celebratory event that showcased how the RTPs have grown over the past decade and facilitated innovation in research and development. This included an introduction from our Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Stuart Croft.
We heard case study talks on how the RTPs have supported research at Warwick and beyond, as well as the role they have played in the development of larger national and regional research facilities, including the National Electron Diffraction Facility, the Sulis High Performance Computing platform and the National Research Facility for lab-based X-ray Computed Tomography.
The event followed a seminar series earlier in the year that highlighted how the RTPs can support research and development in key areas, including:
- Imaging and Particle Size Analysis
- Composition of Materials
- Structure of Materials
- Biological and Chemical Structure
- Research Computing
About the RTPs
The University of Warwick’s Research Technology Platforms (RTPs) are an integrated network of world-class research facilities and technical expertise that enable outstanding science.
Since their inception the RTPs have generated over £24m of capital investment, both externally and internally, housing cutting-edge research technology and the expertise to maximise their potential.
Crucially, the RTPs are open to access for both researchers across Warwick and externally to industry and academia, supporting innovation at regional, national and international scales.
Each RTP is operated by expert technical professionals. Providing bespoke advice, analysis and training, they underpin world-leading scientific discovery at Warwick and foster advancement in research and development by solving industry challenges.
Accessing the RTPs
External users from industry and academia can access the RTPs and other cutting-edge facilities at Warwick through Warwick Scientific Services (WSS).
