Adapting A Digital Tool to Support Neurodivergent Parents - Dr Nathan Hodson and Dr Samantha Flynn
The aim of this project was to adapt the Pause app to support neurodivergent parents to find additional benefit from existing evidence-based parenting programmes. We did this in collaboration with a Neurodivergent Parents Steering Group. Our ultimate aim is to improve the accessibility, useability, and acceptability of existing evidence-based parenting programmes for neurodivergent parents through the adaptation and provision of the Pause app alongside existing programmes.
Project Outcomes:
1. A collaboratively developed Neurodivergent Parent version of the Pause app has been built and shared with local authorities.
2. An academic publication in a peer-reviewed journal is in preparation.
3. A list of narrative examples of how neurodivergent parents use core evidence-based parenting skills has been prepared.
4. An external grant application to feasibility test the Neurodivergent Parent version of the Pause app is planned.
This project has allowed us to discover a clear are of overlapping interest between our different disciplines where we plan to seek future funding over the coming months.
We recruited an advisory panel of 11 neurodivergent parents who participated in the three consultation points during our project.
One member of the advisory panel reached out to say
"just wanted to say how pleased I am to see so many of the recommendations made by the groups that have been implemented. I truly believe it will make a positive difference to the experiences of ND families and their children, so thank you both for the work you are doing."
