Date: 10 November 2025
Time: 10.00-11.00 (UK time)
Location: MS Teams (a link will be sent to you upon registration)
‘The Role of the Civic University in Peace Dialogue and Education’ is an online event bringing together students, researchers, and community members of the West Midlands.
The dialogue will focus on youth voices for peacebuilding and the actual and potential role of higher education in critical thinking around peace for our current time. Universities are facing increasing financial pressure as well as criticism for moving away from their roots in local communities, with calls for a civic agenda to contribute more significantly to surrounding communities within which they are based. At the same time, the rise of political populism and trends in mis/disinformation threaten polarisation and conflict in our communities.
Speakers will respond to a set of 3 key questions posed by a moderator and then the (online) floor will be open for audience participation. Speaker responses will draw on case studies from the region and globally, as well as discuss the potential of different methods and approaches to foster enhanced dialogue and cultural understanding.
